Robin McKenzie: “Patients should be able to help themselves heal”
The McKenzie method is a mechanical back diagnostic and treatment method that analyzes the patient’s response to repeated mechanical end-range back stimulation (back extension).
The method was developed in the 1960s by physiotherapist Robin Anthony McKenzie (born 1931, Auckland, New Zealand). Many scientific studies indicate the effectiveness and necessity of the method in the treatment of most back patients.
According to McKenzie, back pain is caused by
prolonged sitting and standing in a bad posture
working with a bent back in an upright position
lifting heavy weights
sleeping in a bad posture
The above causes lead to musculoskeletal disorders (postural stress, dysfunction, anatomical disorder), which can occur in the neck, chest and lumbar region.
